River and Boca lead the way ahead of the superclásico with wins over Banfield and Lanús
River Plate and Boca have set-up the superclásico triple header in a couple of weeks perfectly after both sides emerged victorious from Sunday’s fixtures and now sit side-by-side at the top of the league. Few fixtures in world football are as eagerly anticipated as the clash between the two sides but when they are fighting for the league title and the Copa Libertadores it takes it to a whole different level.
River Plate ran out deserved winners over Banfield in the Monumental and although there were a few nervy moments, Fernando Cavenaghi fired Gallardo’s boys to victory and in doing so became the club’s tenth highest scorer. Youngster Sebastián Druissi expertly volleyed River in front from distance during the first half and after being awarded a huge let-off when Juan Cazeres blazed over in front of an open goal, Ramiro Funes Mori extended the lead. Mauricio Cuero pulled one back to potentially set-up a nervy ending but Cavenaghi struck twice before the final whistle; the second a delightful back heel, to conclude what has been an excellent week for River.
Later in Lanús, Boca Juniors faced what was perhaps their first real test in the Primera as they made the short journey to often formidable Forteleza. This was made all the more complicated when Víctor Ayala fired El Granate into the lead with less than a minute on the clock but Rodolfo Arruabarrena’s side reacted superbly. Federico Carrizo’s smart header on the run drew them level and although they were indebted to the superb Guillermo Sara in goal on a couple of occasions, Los Xeneizes pulled ahead. Breaking quickly with twenty-five minutes remaining, Dani Osvaldo released the pacy Cristian Pavón and the 19-year-old made no mistake in slotting the ball past Fernando Monetti. The home side continued to push for an equaliser but in injury time, Nicolás Lodeiro was awarded a soft penalty after a slight tug from Diego Barisone and the Uruguayan slotted home from the spot. Perhaps a first real examination of this new-look Boca side which they passed impressively. The stage is now all set for an enthralling eleven days at the start of May.

Huracán see off River to lift the Supercopa Argentina
Huracán bounced back from the disappointment of their Copa Libertadores exit to defeat River Plate in San Juan and lift the Supercopa. The meeting between the Torneo Final winners and the Copa Argentina champions is hardly the most illustrious of titles but after a difficult start to 2015 it is a reason to celebrate for El Globo.
One week ahead of the superclásico, Marcelo Gallardo named a full-strength side, preferring the in-form Fernando Cavenaghi and Rodrigo Mora over Colombian Teo Gutiérrez in attack. As expected it was River who enjoyed the majority of possession and created the most chances but Huracán remained a threat with the physicality of Ramón Ábila leading the line and the pace of Cristian Espinoza and Patricio Toranzo behind.
The only goal of the game came after twenty minutes when young Espinoza ran in behind Leonel Vangioni and cut inside Ramiro Funes Mori before cutting the ball back for the arriving Edson Puch. The Chilean’s drilled right-footed finish left Marcelo Barovero no chance but once again showed River’s rather soft underbelly.
River pushed for a way back into the game but El Globo held firm and celebrated lifting the trophy. It may only be the Supercopa but after going out of the Libertadores this should boost Néstor Apuzzo’s side who need to start picking up points in the Primera. For River it is only a minor disappointment as all eyes are on the superclásico

- Mammana van River Plate staat in de belangstelling van Atletico Madrid. Persoonlijk hoop ik dat hij nog enkele jaren bij River blijft. Hij is pas 19 jaar, en indien Ramiro Funes Mori zal worden verkocht dan zie ik Mammana een vaste waarde worden bij River Plate.
Eder Balanta zie ik in de zomer vertrekken bij River. De Colombiaan is een groot talent, maar sinds het WK in Brazilië is hij wel erg vaak geblesseerd geweest. Ik blijf het een vreemde keuze vinden van Gallardo dat indien Eder Balanta fit is de voorkeur van Gallardo uitgaat na Ramiro Funes Mori.
- Ramiro Funes Mori staat in de belangstelling van diverse Europese clubs. Bij een goed bod zou ik hem als River zijnde meteen verkopen. Ondanks dat hij enkele belangrijke goals heeft gemaakt blijf ik hem defensief nog steeds te zwak vinden. Afgelopen seizoen heeft zijn blunder tegen Racing Club de titel gekost. En ook in diverse andere wedstrijden maakte hij regelmatig een fout waaruit werd gescoord of een grote kans ontstond.
23.15 de eerste van de 3 ontmoetingen tussen Boca Juniors en River Plate. Ook geruime tijd geleden dat beide ploegen als nummer 1 en 2 op de ranglijst deze wedstrijd tegen elkaar speelde.
Boca Juniors heeft zeer goede zaken gedaan de afgelopen transferperiode, en vooral Lodeiro maakt wekelijks heel veel indruk.
River Plate zal zeer waarschijnlijk met deze opstelling starten vanavond tegen Boca.

Kranevitter speelt helaas tot dusver een minder seizoen dan afgelopen jaar. Ponzio speelt tot dusver beter dan Kraneviiter.
Driussi laat de laatste weken steeds vaker zien dat hij een speler is die de top gaat halen. Hopelijk voor River blijft hij nog enkele seizoenen. Momenteel zou het ook te vroeg zijn voor een overstap na Europa.
Mercado heeft nog steeds last van een blessure, en zoals het er nu uitziet zal hij alle 3 de wedstrijden tegen Boca Juniors missen.
Gelukkig kiest Gallrdo centraal achterin voor Pezzella in plaats van Ramiro Funes Mori.
Persoonlijk vind ik deze opstelling zeer goed. River heeft met Mora, Teo en Driussi 3 snelle spelers in de voorhoede. Hopelijk haalt Teo zijn niveau van vorig seizoen. In de tweede helft kan Gallardo dan nog Cavenaghi brengen.
Rojas en Kranevitter zullen voor de balans in dit elftal moeten zorgen. Met Mammana in de basis kiest Gallardo er ook voor dat er altijd 3 centrale verdedigers staan waardoor Vangioni meer de ruimte krijgt om zijn rushes en acties te maken. Indien River dus in de aanval gaat hebben ze Sánchez op rechts, Vangioni op links en de 3 snelle spitsen.
Het beloven 3 mooie wedstrijden te worden, en voor beide ploegen een goede test om te kijken waar ze nu precies staan.

- D'Alessandro was at Estudiantes-Racing in La Plata tonight and the announcers were saying that Milito is trying to convince him to go to Racing.
D'Alessandro is ook vanaf zijn jeugd al een fan van Racing, en het zou mooi zijn als hij terugkeert in de Argentijnse competitie.
- Gio Simeone wordt in de Argentijnse media gelinkt aan Palermo indien Dybala daar vertrekt. Hij scoorde 9 keer tijdens het Zuid-Amerikaanse jeugdtoernooi, maar heeft op mij nog steeds geen indruk weten te maken in het eerste van River. Ik wordt ook moe van zijn uitspraken dat hij zeer snel na Europa wil. Bij een goed bod doet River er goed aan hem te verkopen. Driussi heeft veel meer potentie dan Gio Simeone.
- Er gaat een gerucht dat Sevilla in de zomer een bod van 12 miljoen gaat uitbrengen op Teo. Indien dit waar is moet River dit meteen doen. Ondanks dat hij afgelopen jaar zeer sterk speelde blijft het een speler met een gebruiksaanwijzing, en ik verwacht dat hij ook niet gaat slagen bij Sevilla. Destijds in Turkije was hij ook bij meer opstootjes betrokken dan dat hij met voetbal bezig was.
River zou dan een poging moeten wagen om Carillo van Estudiantes te kopen. Momenteel vind ik hem de beste spits in de Argentijnse competitie. Echter ik denk niet dat Veron hem aan River gaat verkopen.
Independiente heeft interesse om Cirigliano die bij River op een zijspoor is beland te huren van River met optie tot koop. Hij zou daar dan de geblesseerde Diego Rodriguez moeten vervangen.
Mammana staat ook in de belangstelling van Arsenal. Al is Atletico Madrid het concreetst. Het zou jammer zijn indien hij net als Batalla in de zomer vertrekt terwijl beide spelers nog niet volledig zijn doorgebroken bij River. Voor de toekomt heeft Real Madrid met Batalla een uitstekende keeper gecontracteerd.
Rojas zou zich niet kunnen vinden in het contractvoorstel dat River hem heeft aangeboden.

Begin van de wedstrijd Boca Juniors - River Plate is Boca de betere ploeg. Barovero stopte het schot van Colazo, en de rebound werd geblokt door Pezzella. De volley van Osvaldo raakte de paal.
Edit: Chavez had Boca Juniors op voorsprong moeten zetten. Echter hij kreeg het voor elkaar om de bal over te schieten.
Vrije trap van ruim 30 meter overgeschoten door Rodrigo Mora. Schot van Carlos Sánchez via de onderkant van de lat uit het doel.
Ruim een uur gespeeld, en de stand is nog 0-0. Zojuist is Gago in de ploeg gekomen voor Chavez, en hierdoor speelt Boca nu in een 442 systeem.

Argentina name 30-man squad for Copa América
Gerardo Martino has named his 30-man squad for the Copa América and while there are very few surprises (at least to get excited about) there are still a couple of names that few expected to see.
Left back, Milton Casco is the only completely new face and although will likely be cut from the final 23 is still somewhat of a surprise, despite his Newell’s link to Martino. Otherwise the squad leans heavily on those who have featured in the previous friendlies and so of course there is a place for Carlos Tevez among the strikers.

Grondona names his Argentina under-20 squad for the World Cup
Humberto Grondona has named his 21-player squad for the Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand that will kick off on May 30th. Fresh from their South American championship triumph at the start of the year, Argentina will now try and reclaim the trophy that they have not won since 2007. Once again, Atlético Madrid’s Ángel Correa will lead the side but he is backed by a talented squad desperate to give Argentina a seventh title at this level.
Argentina start their campaign on May 30th against Panama before competing with Ghana and Austria in group B. The African sides are usually strong at this level and so Ghana will likely provide the biggest test to Grondona’s side in this first stage.
The step up will certainly mean that Argentina will need to rely less on the individual talents of Correa, who at times dragged the side to victory in Uruguay. Giovani Simeone is also less likely to have as many chances in front of goal but his role as the sides number nine will be equally important as it was when he ended leading scorer in the South American championship.
Simeone and his River teammate, Sebastián Driussi will be important in the final third for La Albiceleste and at the other end, a third River player, Emanuel Mammana will be key. Since helping the side lift the South American championship, Mammana has further enhanced his reputation with performances for the River first team and he is now said to be nearing a switch to Europe.
Grondona is likely to have angered River and rivals Boca by selecting these players as they are still all involved in their respective clubs Copa Libertadores campaigns. They face each other this week but the winning side will obviously progress to the quarter finals and if they do not join up with the national side then they would be breaching FIFA regulations.

De return wedstrijd van de Copa Libertadores Boca Juniors - River Plate is vannacht gestaakt nadat de 'fans' van Boca bij het verlaten van de tunnel in de rust de spelers van River Plate met pepperspray belaagde. De tussenstand was 0-0. River won de eerste wedstrijd met 1-0 in El Monumental.
Wat mij betreft wordt er nu door de conmebol opgetreden met een zware straf. Sinds het overlijden van Grondona loopt het nog mee de spuigaten uit met het overreden van de regels door de Barras van diverse clubs. Elk weekend is het wel raak met incidenten, en ook regelmatig zijn er hierbij dode bij gevallen. Er moet nu door de conmebol en de AFA hard opgetreden worden, maar ik verwacht dat Boca voor deze daad uiteindelijk een aantal wedstrijden zonder publiek moet spelen, en dat ze niet worden uitgesloten van de Copa Libertadores.
Ontzettend zwak optreden wederom van de Argentijnse politie en de stewards, want het blijft onbegrijpelijk hoe er traangasbommen in het stadion kunnen worden meegenomen in een stadion.
Ook duurde het nog geruime tijd voordat de wedstrijd werd gestaakt terwijl het duidelijk zichtbaar was dat diverse River spelers last hadden van hun ogen en ademhalingsproblemen.
De spelers en de staf van River gingen nadat het definitief werd gestaakt met de bus na El Monumental, en werden daar opgewacht door fans van River die hun steun betuigde.
Boca Juniors v River Plate suspended – trying to make a bit of sense of it
I can’t quite work out how to start here, so let’s just dive in, as I don’t plan on this being a long post. It’s been a bad day for Argentine football; on Thursday morning, Banfield youngster Emiliano Ortega died from a head injury he’d picked up last week playing on loan for lower division side San Martín de Burzaco. This weekend’s Primera División fixtures, along with every other domestic match in Argentina, have been called off as a mark of respect.
And then the second leg of the Copa Libertadores last sixteen tie between Boca Juniors and River Plate at La Bombonera was suspended on Thursday night before kick off of the second half, after River players were attacked by pepper spray (was it just pepper spray?), seemingly sprayed on them by a ‘fan’ who’d damaged the inflatable tunnel they were coming out of onto the pitch.
That’s about all we know for certain so far. Fox Sports commentators at the match said they’d received a message from a friend who recognised the ‘fan’ apparently using a blowtorch or some kind of controlled flare – I’m assured by Twitter followers this would be possible depending on the kind of flare – cutting through the chainlink fence at the side of the pitch (who was shown on the TV cameras). It was claimed that he had received a banning order from the club 45 days before, so shouldn’t have even been at the match. If true, that doesn’t speak very highly of entrance checks, but national Security Secretary Sergio Berni said afterwards that, ‘the security operation was a success.’ The match was suspended. Boca want to arrange for the second half to be played in a few days’ time (in a neutral venue, and it should go without saying, behind closed doors), whilst River are understandably more reticent.
CONMEBOL regulations would appear to be clear – if ‘fans’ of one team cause a match to be called off, the other team are awarded the match. Without needing to worry about a scoreline, that in this case would result in River advancing to the quarter-finals, since they already won last week’s first leg 1-0 (tonight’s match was 0-0 when it was called off). But will CONMEBOL apply that regulation? There are rumours that the mixture sprayed on the players contained more than just pepper spray – acid from a phosphorescent flare was mentioned on Radio Mitre. And there was talk on ESPN’s South American broadcast (which was covering the aftermath but didn’t broadcast the game – the tournament rights are held by Fox Sports) of Boca having La Bombonera suspended for continental competitions for as much as two years. But right now, it’s all just talk. For the moment, we don’t know which of these teams will be in the quarter-finals, or what punishment will be handed down to Boca, and Leonardo Ponzio, Sebastián Driussi, Ramiro Funes Mori and Matías Kranevitter will be spending the night in a burns unit.
Racing got through their own last sixteen tie by beating Montevideo Wanderers 2-1 in El Cilindro for a 3-2 aggregate win, by the way. Well done, Racing.

Boca v River suspended after pepper spray incident
It was almost certain that Boca Juniors v River Plate, in the second leg of a Copa Libertadores tie would be full of incident, but no one expected Argentine football to be dragged through the gutter again.
River Plate made it to half-time goalless on the night, and with a 1-0 lead from the first leg a week ago.
On returning for the second half, it is alleged that a Boca fan sprayed pepper spray on River Plate players in the tunnel.
Some River Plate players were clearly in discomfort, they were unable to open their eyes and the game was suspended after the players had waited on the Bombanera pitch for an hour.
Footage emerged of a Boca Juniors fan with his hand inside the tunnel, apparently letting out the pepper spray on the River Plate players. (There have even been suggestions it was not pepper spray, but acid.)
The crowd of 50,000 mainly dispersed immediately – it is not clear when the tie will be completed.

Ik denk dat het enkele wedstrijden zonder publiek wordt voor Boca, en dat deze wedstrijd niet meer wordt uitgespeeld. Ook ironisch dat er vooraf nog een minuut stilte werd gehouden voor Emanuel Ortega die afgelopen week overleed aan een herseninfarct die hij op het veld kreeg. Hij speelde in de 5e klasse. De wedstrijden voor dit weekend in de Argentijnse competitie zijn ook allemaal daardoor afgelast.
Ponzio, Driussi, Ramiro Funes Mori en Sánchez hebben het meeste last gaat van deze bom die werd gegooid.
Dieptepunt voor het Argentijns voetbal, en gezien de financiële crisis, en het belachelijke plan om een competitie te spelen met 30 ploegen is dit wederom een aanleiding voor jonge spelers om eerder in een ander land te gaan spelen. Ook zullen de Argentijnen die nu in Europa spelen niet snel terugkeren in de Argentijnse competitie.

Boca Juniors is hard aangepakt voor het peppersprayincident in de beladen derby met River Plate. De Zuid-Amerikaanse voetbalbond CONMEBOL heeft in de nacht van zaterdag op zondag besloten dat Boca uit de Copa Libertadores, de Zuid-Amerikaanse Champions League, wordt gezet. Bovendien moet de Argentijnse topclub een boete van 200.000 euro betalen en moet het vier thuiswedstrijden zonder supporters afwerken. Ook mag het naar de eerstvolgende vier uitduels geen fans meenemen.

Fan violence has cost Boca Juniors their Copa Libertadores place as their appeal was dismissed on Tuesday.
Boca Juniors' appeal against their Copa Libertadores expulsion has been dismissed.
The Argentine giants paid the price for their violent fans, who appeared to attack River Plate players with pepper spray during the second leg of their Libertadores last-16 tie on Thursday.
River were awarded a 3-0 win after the clash was called off at half-time with the second leg locked at 0-0 at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires.
Boca were also hit with a $200,000 fine, ordered to play four games behind closed doors, while four away matches will go ahead without visiting supporters.
The club decided to appeal, only for that to be dismissed by CONMEBOL's Court of Appeals.
The court "dismissed the appeal by Argentina's Boca Juniors against the decision by CONMEBOL's Disciplinary Tribunal, which was filed under document O/ 69/15, on May 16, 2015".
The statement from CONBEMOL concluded: "Therefore, the disciplinary decisions in its entirety will stand."
In other news, Boca have named and shamed 11 club members that were involved in the pepper spray saga.
The attacks resulted in four River players requiring treatment.
A Boca statement on Tuesday indicated the 11 perpetrators would be banned temporarily from the stadium, and the club is amid a procedure that could see the members expelled.
River were eventually claimed a 4-0 aggregate victory and a berth in the quarter-finals - where they take on Cruzeiro, starting Thursday.
"They were identified and the corresponding data is already in the prosecution of Dr. Susana Callejas," a translation of a Boca statement read.
"Moreover, the institution will have the right to refuse admission and initiated actions to determine the expulsions and penalties that apply, according to the Statute."

De goals van afgelopen weekend met onder andere het 2-0 verlies van Boca bij Velez waardoor we de koppositie kwijt zijn.
Boca doet goede zaken in deze speelronde met een 4-0 thuisoverwinning op Newells old Boys wel in een leeg La Bombanera vanwege de straf die opgelegd is maar ok.
Naaste concurent River en Leider San Lorenzo blijven allebij steken op een gelijkspel dus Boca weer een punt af van de koppositie.
Mijn gevoel zegt dat hij nog niet klaar is in Europa maar ok hopen en dromen mag!!
Boca: ‘Tevez, it’s up to you’
Boca Juniors President Daniel Angelici says a return for Juventus striker Carlos Tevez ‘depends on his own will’.
The 31-year-old has made no secret of the fact he would like to end his career with the club he supported as a child, with speculation he could return this summer.
“The return of Tevez from Juventus depends entirely on his own will,” Boca’s official Twitter account quotes Angelici as saying.
“The doors of the club are open. It would be a dream, but we’ll have to see if it’s one that can be realised.
“It depends more on the player than the club.”

Eerder werd Mammana ook gelinkt aan Internazionale en Atletico Madrid. Voor zijn ontwikkeling zou het beter zijn als hij nog 2 seizoenen in Argentinië blijft spelen.

Carlos Tevez Move to Boca Juniors Would Be Biggest Argentina Transfer in History
Even while Carlos Tevez continues training and playing alongside his Argentina colleagues in the Copa America, speculation keeps linking the Juventus forward to a permanent move back to South America. This time, there may just be a little more substance to the reports.
Should the 31-year-old Boca Juniors icon finally put pen to paper and seal a return to his first club, it would no doubt be the most spectacular transfer in the history of the country's venerable Primera Division. Could it all be true?
The story was set in motion this Monday, when Argentina received an unexpected guest at their training base in Chile's La Serena. Boca president Daniel Angelici turned up in the city with the specific aim of talking with Tevez with a view to a transfer at the end of the Copa, as revealed on Twitter by Calcio Mercato and other reputable news sources.
From there, the world-class forward—used sparingly so far by the Albiceleste in their opening two matches, a draw and win over Paraguay and Uruguay respectively—has been drawn ever closer to the Argentinian giants. Goal reported that Tevez had already informed the Old Lady that he wanted to move back home, but Angelici told TyC Sport (via the same medium) that there was still some way to go in negotiations with the club.
"You have to respect Juventus, the club where he still has a contract, but I'm sure Tevez will stay at Juve or return to Boca," the president explained.
"We spoke to Carlitos about his future, but at the moment we're leaving him in peace to concentrate on the Copa America. Afterwards, he'll decide with his club where his future lies, but I'm sure, if not now, it'll be next year [that he returns]."
Leading Argentinian journalist Juan Pablo Varsky went even further on Twitter. According to the writer, Tevez would have to promise in a legal document that if he rescinds his contract in Turin it would be to go to Boca, and not another European club (the disparity in financial situations between Italian and Argentinian football obviously discards the chance of the Xeneize buying the player outright).
So what would this mean for both Boca and Argentina? To put it simply, it would be a transfer almost without precedent in the last 50 years of the nation's local league. That is not to say, of course, that players with cult followings in the Primera do not return. Juan Sebastian Veron left Europe to guide Estudiantes to the Copa Libertadores in 2009, while Racing Club idol Diego Milito lifted his own silverware last year in winning the league just six months after returning from Inter.
From Humberto Maschio in the 1960s to Claudio Caniggia, Diego Maradona and Ariel Ortega in more recent times, there is a long tradition of overseas Argentinian stars coming back to the clubs that brought them into the game. Indeed, the last match before the Primera Division went into recess for the Copa America saw Pablo Aimar finally make his long-awaited second coming in River colours, alongside another prodigal son in Fernando Cavenaghi.
The Tevez move, however, is different. This is not a player well into his 30s, in the twilight of his career. Carlitos remains one of the best strikers in world football. A Serie A title with Juve this year, 29 goals in all competitions and a run to the Champions League final gave ample proof of his quality. The nearest comparison would be Juan Roman Riquelme coming back to tread the Bombonera turf in 2007.
But the enigmatic playmaker always looked more comfortable in his own backyard. Tevez, on the other hand, has had almost unbroken success since leaving Argentina for Corinthians in 2005 and yet is seemingly ready to throw himself once more into the hurly-burly of the Superclasico and other fierce local clashes. Right now, only the return of Sergio Aguero to Independiente or a dream move for Lionel Messi to Newell's Old Boys could come close to matching this transfer for impact.
The news also comes at an extremely sensitive time for Boca themselves. The club, and Angelici's reputation, was severely damaged by the disgraceful scenes that marked a derby Libertadores clash with River last month. Several River players, the Buenos Aires Herald explains, were left needing hospital treatment when Boca barra brava hooligans carried out an attack with a potent homemade "pepper spray."
The shameful scenes meant that Boca were kicked out of the South American competition, and this piled pressure on Angelici.
Defending his presidency in December's elections, the chief needs a big statement to rehabilitate his reputation—and who better to deliver this than the People's Player, the man most closely associated with the toughness and the unbreakable spirit synonymous with Argentinian football?
Constantly weakened by the exodus of its best players to Europe and the rest of the world, Argentinian football needs the presence of an icon like Tevez to shake it out of the current malaise. The Juve man would be taking a great risk in leaving behind the comparative security of Italy to enter back into the chaos of the Primera, but it would be a gigantic coup for the country and its millions of football-mad fans who crave to see the best of their compatriots week in, week out.

Goed voor de status van de Argentijnse competitie indien Tevez terugkeert. Ook Mascherano en Falcao hebben meerdere keren aangegeven dat zijn hun loopbaan in Argentinië ( River Plate) willen afsluiten.
Saviola keert zeer waarschijnlijk ook terug bij River Plate. Mooi om te zien dat El Conejo gaat samenspelen met Aimar.
Bertolo heeft een contract getekend bij River.
11 Augustus speelt River tegen Gamba Osaka voor de Suruga Bank Cup. De wedstrijd zal plaatsvinden in het Osaka '70 expo stadion.
Gamba Osaka heeft In 2014 de J League, de Japanse Beker en de Emperors Cup gewonnen. De ploeg is ook nog actief in de kwartfinale van de AFC Champions League. De sterspeler van de Japanners is Takushi Usami. Hij speelde in het verleden nog enkele wedstrijden voor Bayern München, en kwam een seizoen uit voor Hoffenheim. Sinds zijn terugkeer bij Gamba Osaka scoorde hij 57 goals in 75 wedstrijden.

Boca bid emotional farewell to Battaglia but Riquelme and Palermo steal the show
To mark the retirement of club legend Sebastián Battaglia, Boca Juniors held a testimonial of sorts at La Bombonera last night and while the action on the pitch may have been lethargic, the festival atmosphere was anything but. Icons from the past twenty years turned out to mark the occasion but it was perhaps the appearances of Juan Román Riquelme and Martín Palermo that most excited the crowd. Riquelme was by some distance the standout player on the pitch but it was Palermo that drew the biggest cheer during the first half when he nutmegged Diego Cagna on halfway. The match ended 6-4 to give some indication of the defending but it was a fitting tribute to Battaglia.

Unbelievable own-goal as Argentine keeper throws the ball into his own net!
Comunicaciones goalkeeper Rodrigo Cervetti must either be hiding away in embarrassment or enjoying the riches of deliberating throwing (no pun intended) his sides Metropolitana B match against Atlanta on Wednesday evening. With the game still goalless, Cervetti looked to initiate an attack by throwing the ball out to his full-back before having second thoughts resulting in him launching the ball back over his shoulder and into the empty net for one of the most bizarre own-goals you are ever likely to see. Atlanta ended winning the match 5-0 but it is Cervetti taking all the headlines.
Saviola and Lucho return but River are held by Tigre and miss the chance to go top
River have more important matters just around the corner, namely a Copa Libertadores semi-final but last night in Victoria, Marcelo Gallardo’s side had the chance to join San Lorenzo at the top of the table thanks to their rescheduled match against Tigre. Despite being the better side, Gustavo Alfaro’s well-drilled outfit managed to keep River out and although the visitors were able to bring on new signings Javier Saviola and Lucho González they were still unable to break the deadlock. The result, now that every side has played the same number of matches, leaves River on 30 points level with Racing, a point behind Boca and two off leaders San Lorenzo.

De belangrijkste wedstrijden voor River de komende tijd zijn inderdaad de wedstrijden tegen Guarani.
Ik vind het geweldig dat Saviola weer is teruggekeerd bij River. Hij debuteerde op zijn 16e in het eerste elftal van River, en maakte meteen een goal. Tijdens de Apertura 1999 werd hij op 17 jarige leeftijd topscorer met 15 goals in 19 wedstrijden. Tevens werd hij in 1999 verkozen tot beste speler die in Zuid-Amerika speelde. River won in 1999 de Apertura en in 2000 de Clausura, en daarin had Saviola een grote bijdrage.
In 2001 scoorde hij ook 11 goals in 7 wedstrijden tijdens het Jeugd Wk-20. Dit is nog steeds een record, en Saviola won daar ook de gouden bal.
Lucho ook terug bij River. Wat een fantastsich middenveld heeft Gallardo nu tot zijn beschikking met Kranevitter, Lucho, Aimar, Piscu, Sánchez.
Bertolo is geblesseerd geraakt tegen Rosario Central, en zal voor beide halve finale wedstrijden tegen Guarani niet beschikbaar zijn.
Mercado is ook geblesseerd geraakt, maar hij zal waarschijnlijk de wedstrijd tegen Guarani wel halen.

- Gio Simeone speelt inmiddels op huurbasis bij Banfield. Gisteren maakte hij de winnende treffer in de uitwedstrijd tegen Quilmes.
- Er gaan geruchten dat Tommy Martinez verhuurd gaat worden. Tigre en Newell's zouden interesse hebben.
- Defensa Y Justica zou Guido Rodriguez willen huren van River Plate, en Dallas FC heeft interesse om Cirigliano te contracteren.
- Teo Gutierrez is wederom in opspraak geraakt bij River, en Gallardo heeft aangegeven dat hij geen minuut meer gaat maken in het eerste van River. Volgens de geruchten zou hij voor 3 miljoen mogen vertrekken. Afgelopen jaar was er nog een bod op de Colombiaan van 8 miljoen. Teo blijft een speler met veel talent, maar mentaal zit het nog steeds niet goed bij hem.
River heeft Viudez al gecontracteerd als zijn vervanger. Echter vanwege de regel met betrekking tot spelers die niet in Argentinië geboren zijn kan hij niet in actie komen voor River tot Teo is vertrokken.

Juventus have confirmed the financial details as Carlos Tevez completes his transfer to Boca Juniors, including options on four players.
The complex deal has a number of points to it, listed in a statement released by the Bianconeri.
Definitive transfer to Boca Juniors of the registration rights of Carlos Tevez for €6.5m to be paid on December 15 2016 in a sole instalment.
The disposal does not generate any significant economic effect for Juventus
Temporary acquisition by Juventus, until June 30 2017, of player Guido Nahuel Vadala for €3.5m to be paid on December 31 2016 in a sole instalment.
The agreement also provides Juventus the open right, to be exercised within April 20 2017, for the definitive acquisition of the player at a price of €9.4m.
Acquisition of Juventus of the option rights to the definitive acquisition, effective from the 2017-18 sports season, of the registration rights of the players Rodrigo Bentancur Colman, Franco Sebastian Cristaldo and Adrian Andres Cubas.
For each option right, Juventus will pay Boca Juniors €1m within December 31 2016.
Juventus is entitled to exercise the option rights within April 20 2017 at the following purchase prices: €9.4m for Rodrigo Bentancur Colman, €8.2m for Franco Sebastian Cristaldo and €6.9m for Adrian Andres Cubas.

Juventus heeft inderdaad een zeer goede deal gesloten met Boca Juniore. Vadala is een zeer groot talent, en Cubas voor 6,9 miljoen vind ik ook een zeer interessante optie om in de toekomst op de nummer 5 positie bij Juventus te gaan spelen.
Newell's Old Boys gisteren met 3-0 gewonnen van Racing Club dat sinds het verlies in de 1e speelronde ongeslagen was. Goede start van de trainersloopbaan van Lucas Bernardi.
Gabriel Heinze maakt gisteren ook zijn debuut als trainer, en zijn ploeg Codoy Cruz won met 3-0 van Crucero del Norte.
De presentatie van Tevez bij Boca wordt gedaan door Maradona, en Carlitos zal het nummer 10 shirt overnemen van Lodeiro die nummer 14 gaat dragen.

Goed nieuws natuurlijk voor de uitstraling van de Argentijnse competitie dat er met Saviola, Lucho, Aimar en Tevez spelers met een grote naam zijn teruggekeerd na hun vaderland.
Mauro Formica heeft een 3 jarig contract getekend bij de club waar hij zijn beste voetbal heeft laten zien ( Newell's Old Boys).
Vannacht de eerste wedstrijd van de halve finale in de Copa Libertadores: River Plate - Guarani.
Vermoedelijke opstelling van River: Barovero; Mercado, Maidana, Funes Mori, Vangioni; Sanchez, Ponzio, Kranevitter, Lucho; Mora y Saviola
Aimar heeft helaas last van een blessure, en zal deze heenwedstrijd niet in actie komen.

Ah, Formica. Wat heeft die vent in de tussentijd allemaal uitgespookt? Ben hem eigenlijk na het WK-21 uit het oog verloren. Heeft daarna nog een aantal jaar bij Newell's gespeeld, maar daarna niks meer van gehoord of gezien.
Wat verwacht je van Bernardi, kitno? Denk je dat hem hetzelfde lot als Gallardo staat te wachten? Hij heeft iig de uitstraling. Leuke gast. En heb je de banner van de supporters van Newell's gezien? En ik maar denken dat Leo door geen clubsupporter zal worden verdedigd, aangezien hij voor geen club heeft gespeeld daar. Was toch wel fijn om te zien.
Dit is toch erg jammer!!
'Suffering' Aimar announces retirement
River Plate coach Marcelo Gallardo has revealed the former Valencia ace was struggling with injuries and felt he could no longer continue
Former Argentina international Pablo Aimar has retired after failing to earn a spot in River Plate's squad for the semi-final stage of the Copa Libertadores.
Aimar, who only made his playing return to boyhood club River Plate in May, managed two appearances with the Buenos Aires-based club in his second stint due to injuries, before calling time on his career on Tuesday.
After being told by coach Marcelo Gallardo that he would not be included in the extended squad to be used in the semi-finals and - potentially - final of the Copa Libertadores, Aimar decided to hang up his boots.
"Yesterday they advised me that I will not be on the list of the Copa [Libertadores], and I understand," the 35-year-old wrote in a letter to his team-mates.
"I do not want to occupy a place that probably is for other guys. So I decided stop playing professionally."
Without Aimar, River defeated Guarani 2-0 in the first leg of their semi-final tie, and speaking after the match, Gallardo explained how tough the recent pre-season has been on the veteran midfielder.
"He told me he was suffering, but he was trying to hide it behind desire and enthusiasm," the coach said.
Aimar ends his career with 83 league appearances for River across two stints - the first coming from 1996-2000.
The 52-time Argentina representative made his name in Europe with Valencia, winning two La Liga crowns and the 2004 Uefa Cup.
Aimar then played with Real Zaragoza and Benfica before a shock move to Johor Darul Takzim in Malaysia in 2013.

Goede start van Bernardi als coach van Newell's. De speler toonde eindelijk weer passie, en hij durft ook jonge talenten een kans te geven. Tactisch stond het ook allemaal goed, en Hij durft ook met zijn poeg vooruit te voetballen. In hun jeugdacademie loopt er zeer veel talent, en vooral Mancini vond ik zeer sterk spelen tegen Racing Club.
Mauro Formica is in Europa helaas volledig gefaald, maar speelde destijds bij Newell's zeer goed. Ik heb de verwachting dat hij onder Bernardi weer helemaal gaat opbloeien. Mugni blijft ook een speler met ontzettend veel talent, en van hem verwacht ik ook een comeback. Mauricio Tevez is een groot talent, en indien hij het vertrouwen blijft krijgen kan hij een sensatie worden bij Newell's.
Jammer dat Aimar stopt, maar het zat er eigenlijk al een tijd aan te komen. Hij kon een half jaar terug al een contract tekenen bij River, maar zag ervan af vanwege zijn fysieke gesteldheid. Hij heeft ook zelf aan Gallardo aangegeven dat hij niet meer van waarde kan zijn voor River, en dat hij ermee stopt. Het zou mooi zijn als River hem een functie aanbied.
Ariano gisteren opvallend in de basis bij River, en hij maakte op mij een zeer goede indruk. Deze 2-0 voorsprong mag River niet meer uit handen geven. Ik verwacht een finale tussen River en Internacional.
Franco Cervi blijft wekelijks uitblinken bij Rosario Central, en ik zie hem spoedig in Europa terechtkomen.
Osvaldo heeft de aanbieding van Cruz Azul afgewezen.

Yeimar kent tot dusver een geweldig seizoen, en de Colombiaan vind ik momenteel de beste verdediger in de Argentijnse competitie.
