Ik verwacht dat Messi in ieder geval de hele kwalificatie voor het WK niet meer gaat spelen voor Argentinië. Heel veel coaches hebben ook afgezegd voor deze baan, en Bauza is ongeveer de 8e keuze volgens mij. Qua organisatie weet hij wel altijd een sterk team neer te zetten, maar vaak spelen zijn ploegen wel ontzettend saai voetbal.

Hij zal waarschijnlijk wel gaan kiezen voor het 4231 systeem, en het is te hopen dat Mascherano zich in ieder geval nog beschikbaar stelt. Het lijkt mij een goede keuze om Kranevitter - Mascherano als defensief blok op het middenveld te gebruiken. Voorin zou ik Dybala als vaste spits gaan gebruiken, en indien Calleri het goed gaat doen bij West Ham United dan lijkt het mij een goede optie om hem als diepste spits te gebruiken, en Dybala daar vlak achter.

Het belangrijkste is dat in ieder geval het WK in Rusland wordt gehaald.

A year after being moved up to train with the first team, the fourth highest-scoring defender in professional football history still went to his club, Rosario Central, on his bicycle and let his mother know what time he would be back. Two years later, in 1979, he had saved up enough to buy a Renault 12. Edgardo Bauza spent the money from his first contract on a pair of jeans and some shoes, simple pleasures his father's job could not afford.

"Working and studying was fundamental because making the first team for me was down to luck, I wasn't a virtuoso," Bauza admits. He is bound to take that ethic into the Argentina job, after being confirmed as Gerardo Martino's successor on Monday.

Bauza is an avid reader - "It's a shame that people pick video games now over books" - and a politics aficionado. "Convictions that motivate us are the reason to live. A person can sometimes forget about everything that gave him life." Wise words, which Messi will almost certainly be hearing as Bauza takes up the task of convincing him to join him in the journey to Russia 2018.

Gustavo Gomez vind ik vooral aan de bal zeer ondermaats, en naast hem centraal moet duidelijk een centrale verdediger spelen met opbouwende kwaliteiten. Zijn sterkste punten vind ik dat hij een goede tackle heeft en dat hij sterk in de lucht is. Voor zijn ontwikkeling was het beter geweest als hij nog 2 seizoenen in Argentinie was blijven spelen.

Cervi gisteren bij zijn debuut voor Benfica een uitstekende goal gescoord, en hij hield met zijn snelheid en actie ook constant 2 verdedigers van Braga bezig.

Die jongen kreeg sinds zijn debuut het etiket 'de nieuwe Maradona' op zich geplakt. Hij moet in elke wedstrijd Maradona tegen Engeland zijn, terwijl Maradona zelf hooguit in 20% van zijn wedstrijden voor Argentinië echt goed heeft gespeeld. In elk ander land zou Messi geadoreerd worden.

Boca earn deserved victory over San Lorenzo in La Plata


Boca Juniors and San Lorenzo will both be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of failure at the end of last season; Boca limped out of the Copa Libertadores at the semi final while San Lorenzo where resoundly beaten by Lanús in the Transición final and so certainly Guillermo Barros Schelotto will be the happier of the two coaches after Sunday night’s match.

Goals from Federico Carrizo and Pablo Pérez handed Boca a morale boosting win a week before the season begins officially as Barros Schelotto knows there will be no more excuses in the coming months.

San Lorenzo are under new management and there is still plenty of work to be done for Diego Aguirre; Los Cuervos looked well organised but struggled to pose a significant threat to Guillermo Sara’s goal.

Carrizo fired in from Gino Peruzzi’s cut-back midway through the first half and although Pérez sealed the win ten minutes from time with a superbly struck shot from distance, the midfielder was perhaps lucky to still be on the pitch for an earlier challenge on Sebastián Blanco.

Boca snap up talented youngster Nazareno Solís to Talleres’ frustration






Boca Juniors busy pre-season continued on Monday with the successful medical of talented youngster Nazareno Solís, who despite disgruntled noises from current club Talleres, completed a free transfer to the club.

The 22-year-old hadn’t signed a new deal with the newly promoted Cordobés club and although La T had threatened to report Daniel Angelici and Boca to FIFA over their premature approach of the striker, the deal would appear to have been completed regardless.

Solís completed his medical in Buenos Aires on Monday and is expected to sign a three-year deal at La Bombonera on Tuesday with former club Talleres set to receive 15% of any future sale as compensation.

“I’m fulfilling a dream of playing for the club which I am a fan of,” Solís told TyC after his medical.

After celebrating promotion back to the Primera, the departure of Solís is an early blow to Frank Kudelka’s team, given that the youngster ended the title winning Nacional B season as the leading scorer with seven goals from 21 appearances.

These performances earned him a place on Gerardo Martino’s preliminary list for the Argentina under 23 Olympic squad and so it is clear that Boca are acquiring a player full of potential.

Solís made his professional debut for Villa Dálmine in 2013 and although the youngster had a brief spell with Universidad de Chile, he found his way eventually to Talleres.

Not an out-and-out striker, Solís plays wide where utilises his pace and trickery to best affect but admits that he can adapt to positions across the attack.

“Commonly I play on the left wing as I am left footed but I can also play on the right as I have for Talleres and Villa Dálmine. My development has been on the wings,” explained the 22-year-old.

“We will see where they want me to play but I will give it my everything and the coaching staff will decide what to do.”

Since Boca’s elimination from the 2016 Copa Libertadores, Guillermo Barros Schelotto has brought in a further five new faces with Solís now joining Axel Werner, Ricardo Centurión, Sebastián Pérez and Fernando Tobio.

Hopelijk weet Driussi dit seizoen ook eindelijk zijn belofte in te lossen. Hij heeft met Larrondo die werd overgenomen van Rosario Central ook een geduchte concurrent voor zijn positie.

De achterhoede van River oogde met Mina - Maidana centraal achterin ook een stuk stabieler dan afgelopen seizoen.

In the last edition, young stars Gustavo Gomez, Miguel Almiron and Jose Luis Gomez were all standouts for Lanus as they romped to the Transicion title in impressive fashion, while many of the division’s top prospects have now earned big moves off the back of their performances.

Central’s playmaker Giovani Lo Celso, arguably the best youngster over last 12 months, signed for PSG and teammate Franco Cervi traded Rosario for Lisbon after completing his move to Benfica. Outstanding defensive prospect Emmanuel Mammana was picked up by Lyon for an €8m move and San Lorenzo’s mercurial playmaker Alan Ruiz sealed a move to Sporting Lisbon after eye-catching performances on loan at Colon. Elsewhere Roger Martinez, Cristian Espinoza, Hernan Toledo, Hector Villalba and Gio Simeone all packed their backs for exciting opportunities abroad.

So now some of the best cracks have departed, which U21 talents are set to step up and fill their shoes?

Santiago Ascacibar // Estudiantes // 19 // Defensive Midfielder

The tenacious 19-year-old defensive midfielder was the revelation of the Torneo Transicion as Estudiantes finished as runners-up in Group B behind runaway leaders Lanus. Eyebrows were initially raised when Gaston Gil Romero was allowed to move on loan to Rosario Central but Pincha fans needn’t have worried as Ascacibar more than stepped up with his tough-tackling performances at the base of the midfield. In fact, no player averaged more tackles per game (4.6) than the La Plata tyro.

One of the few players who emerged from the Argentina U23 Olympic debacle with his reputation enhanced, Ascacibar is a midfield enforcer very much in the mould of Javier Mascherano and could provide the excellent Matias Kranevitter with some competition for the national team number 5 shirt for years to come.

Cristian Pavon // Boca Juniors // 19 // Wide Forward

Boca have a number of interesting prospects currently on their books. The likes of Cubas, Cristaldo and Juventus-bound Bentancur are already well-established and Leszczuk, Messidoro, Maroni and Chicco are all up-and-coming too. But the player currently looking most likely to make a significant impact this season is wide forward Cristian Pavon.

The 19-year-old first announced himself midway through 2015 with a goal against River in the Superclasico but then struggled for game time until the arrival of Guillermo Barros Schelotto saw an upturn in his fortunes. Rapid and direct, Kichan’s style of play perfectly suited the 4-3-3 formation preferred by Barros Schelotto and made a significant contribution in Boca’s Libertadores campaign, scoring four goals in eight games, before they were knocked out by Independiente del Valle in the semi-final. This season should see a first consistent run of first team football in the Primera for Pavon and he could be a key weapon in Boca’s artillery.

Santiago Rosales // Racing // 21 // Attacking Midfielder

Attacking midfielder Rosales was often the catalyst behind the good performances for Aldosivi since their promotion to the Primera and Racing beat off competition from River and Benfica to sign the 21-year-old this summer. Typically a left-sided playmaker, Rosales possesses a deft touch, decent pace and vision, as demonstrated by his five assists last season. Able to shoot well off either foot, he also managed two goals for el Tiburon but in a better Racing side will expect to add more goals to his game, as well as take some of the creative burden off Oscar Romero. A canny signing for La Academia.

Lucas Janson // Tigre // 22 // Striker

The Tigre striker has been around for some time now, having made his debut all the way back in 2012, but really kicked on last season with six goals and four assists for El Matador. Under coach Pedro Troglio, Janson has been given confidence and continuity which he has repaid with improved performances and, importantly, goals. River have been monitoring him for a while now but Tigre will be desperate to keep hold of the diminutive, skilful forward. Alongside the likes of Sebastian Rincon, Alexis Castro and Kevin Itabel, there is a youthful vein running through the squad which could cause a few surprises this season.

Alexander Barboza // Defensa y Justicia // 21 // Center Back

On loan from River, the tall, ball-playing, left-footed centre-back was a regular in the heart of defence for an overachieving Defensa y Justicia, who eventually finished fourth in Group B last season. Aerially one of the best in the division, Barboza scored an impressive WhoScored rating of 7.12 in a team principally made up of young loanees such as Lisandro Magallan and Tomas Pochettino of Boca, former River duo Guido Rodriguez and Tommy Martinez, and San Lorenzo defensive prospect Tomas Cardona.

Newell’s were interested in acquiring his services but the offer was rejected and Barboza will spend another season in Florencio Varela, honing his game away from the high expectations of River. Given that Argentina are not blessed with plentiful defensive prospects, it will be interesting to see how Barboza and Cardona perform this year at Defensa y Justicia as they aim to punch above their weight again.

Nicolas Gimenez // Talleres // 20 // Box-to-Box Midfielder

Following an impressive season in the B Nacional with Nueva Chicago, Gimenez elected to join newly-promoted Talleres, the sleeping giants from Cordoba who return to the Primera after a twelve-year absence. Gimenez, now 20, has already experienced top flight football with Nueva Chicago, making some eye-catching performances as the Mataderos outfit almost made a miraculous escape from relegation in 2015. A season in the second division has seen him flourish. The powerful midfielder is equally adept at a box-to-box role or further forward in a number 10 role and his Frank Lampard-esque late surges into the area saw him chalk up 8 goals in 21 games. Gimenez offers something a little different from the usual midfielders that Argentina produces and Talleres will be hoping for an instant impact, especially now that promising striker Nazareno Solis has moved to Boca.

Maxi Romero // Velez Sarsfield // 17 // Forward

The young Velez wonderkid was on the verge of joining Arsenal back in 2015 before a ruptured ACL scuppered a move to North London. Still only 17, Romero has recovered strongly and has begun to make in-roads into the Velez first team, scoring three times in eleven appearances for el Fortin. His strike against Godoy Cruz – a lashed left-footed half-volley – perfectly demonstrated the acceleration, technique and striker’s instinct that make him such an exciting prospect. Velez are never short of young talent and Romero, along with the likes of Yamil Asad, Fabricio Alvarenga and Nicolas Delgadillo, should be given plenty of opportunity to gain experience and develop at the Estadio Jose Amalfitani. This could be the year he really breaks through and makes his mark.

Augusto Batalla // River Plate // 20 // Goalkeeper

It’s set to be a big season for River’s highly-rated goalkeeper Augusto Batalla. He has big shoes to fill if he is to replicate the consistently solid performances of Marcelo Barovero, who has now moved to Mexico after a trophy-laden four years at the Monumental. Nevertheless, Batalla has been long-tipped as a big talent. The Number 1 for Argentina U17s and U20s, he turned down a move to Real Madrid in order to stay and increase his chances of regular game time and now has the opportunity to represent one of the biggest clubs on the continent.

An excellent shot-stopper with great reflexes and agility, Batalla is also a leader on and off the pitch. His first few games for River have been somewhat inauspicious but the 20-year-old has the requisite confidence and mental strength to persevere and show his undeniable talent. It’s not often you see young keepers starting in Argentina but with Atletico Madrid new boy Axel Werner being loaned to Boca, we could potentially see the country’s two biggest clubs with rookies between the posts.

Alejandro Romero Gamarra // Huracan // 21 // Midfielder

Romero Gamarra has been on the OOTB radar for some time now and has developed nicely, becoming a regular for Huracan in the Primera over the past couple of seasons. As well as being part of the Globo squad that finished as 2015 Sudamericana runners-up, Romero Gamarra shone during their recent Libertadores campaign with his creativity and whippet-like dribbling. Now that fellow prospect Cristian Espinoza and burly striker Ramon Abila have both moved on to pastures new, there will be an increased onus on Romero Gamarra to create and contribute more goals for a new-look Quemeros.

Guido Vadala // Union de Santa Fe // 19 // Forward

The Rosario-born prodigy emerged with a huge reputation from Boca and drew comparisons with Lionel Messi at youth level before moving to Juventus as part of the Carlos Tevez deal. Yet to make his debut for la Vecchia Signora first team, Vadala has been part of the Primavera side that finished runner up in both the U19 league and cup. Having only made a few fleeting appearances for Boca, the 19-year-old twinkle-toed starlet now has the opportunity to show everyone what the fuss is all about, back in the familiar surroundings of his home province. It could be an inspired piece of business for Union and should give the precocious teen sensation freedom to make up for lost time away from the bright lights of Buenos Aires.

Ik vond Boca gisteren de eerste helft niet slecht spelen. Er zijn ook weer diverse spelers gekocht, en vooral Sebastián Pérez Cardona die is overgenomen van Atletico Nacional vind ik een uitstekende aankoop waar Boca veel plezier aan gaat beleven. Ook verwacht ik dat in de loop van het seizoen Axel Werner die gehuurd is van Atletico Madrid de vaste keeper gaat worden.

Gino Peruzzi is gebleven, en is een rechtsback die ik heel hoog inschat.

Darío Benedetto speelde ook uistekend in Mexico, en bij America werd hij verkozen tot beste speler van de 2014–15 CONCACAF Champions League, en werd hij daarin samen met Oribe Peralta topscorer met 7 doelpunten in 3 wedstrijden.

Ook is Bentancur weer een jaar verder in zijn ontwikkeling, en zijn Zuqui en Centurion voor elke ploeg in Argentinië een aanwinst.

Lanus heeft ook een sterke ploeg met als grote uitblinker José Luis Gimenez, Almirón en Acosta.

Racing Club verwacht ik dit seizoen ook veel van. Rosario Central is wel een stuk zwakker geworden door het vertrek van Larrondo en Cervi en ook Lo Celso zal in Januari vertrekken.

Estudiantes en Independiente zie ik dit seizoen ook hoog eindigen, en het zou mooi zijn als Newell's Old Boys met al hun talenten hoog gaat eindigen.

Guillermo Barros Schelotto was under a degree of pressure for Boca Juniors opening league game in La Bombonera and despite Carlos Tevez being sent off in the first half, Los Xeneizes claimed a thoroughly deserved 3-0 win over Belgrano.

Belgrano had started well enough and were frustrating their hosts but the deadlock was broken just after the half hour mark when Tevez drove forward before precisely bending the ball past Juan Carlos Olave into the bottom corner. However, the iconic striker’s afternoon quickly took a turn for the worst when Germán Delfino showed him a yellow card for a late challenge and another for his subsequent outburst.

The numerical disadvantage didn’t appear to hinder the home side and on the stroke of half time, Cristian Pavón curled in a free-kick that Juan Román Riquelme would have been proud of.

Belgrano were later reduced to ten when Federico Álvarez was shown a red card and it allowed Boca to add a third. A corner to the visitors left no one in defence and as Barros Schelotto’s side countered Frank Fabra ran completely unchallenged on goal. Boca needed a result and a performance and they got just that.

River Plate met 0-1 gewonnen van Tallares. Doelpunt kwam op naam van Arturo Mina. Na 2 wedstrijden staat River eerste met 6 punten en eindelijk kiest Gallardo ervoor om met een 2 spitsen systeem te spelen ( Driussi - Alario) en dat werkt veel beter dan afgelopen seizoenen. Achterin staat het ook een stuk stabieler door de aankoop van Arturo Mina. Maidana - Mina is een uitstekend centrum, en Milton Casco doet het goed op de linksback positie ( helaas viel hij gisteren na 10 minuten spelen al geblesseerd uit). De jonge Batalla is eindelijk eerste keeper en maakte gisteren een uitstekende indruk.

Jorge Moreira doet het ook goed als rechtsback, en ook zijn de ruimtes tussen de linies een stuk kleiner en dat heeft grotendeels te maken met het feit dat Ignacio Fernandez centraal op het middenveld staat.

Newell's Old Boys, Estudiantes, Gimnasia LP en Independiente hebben ook 6 punten uit 2 duels.

Rosario Central mist duidelijk Cervi en Larrondo en zijn met 1 punt uit 2 wedstrijden dramatisch aan het seizoen begonnen. Ze verloren ook met 2-0 van Velez Sarsfield, en Salazar kreeg een rode kaart. Zeer waarschijnlijk zal Teofilo Gutorerez de volgende wedstrijd in de basis starten voorin met Ruben, en de Colombiaan is een betere spits dan Herrera die tegen Velez speelde.

River Plate staat na 4 minuten al met 1-0 achter nadat Maidana een overtreding beging in het strafschopgebied, en Pochettino de strafschop wist te benutten voor Defensa Y Justicia.

17e minuut 1-1 door een eigen doelpunt van Bareiro.

Driussi met de 1-2 voor River.

4 minuten later de 2-2 door Barboza.

Wat een fantastische eerste helft voetbal. Beide ploegen durven te voetballen, en deze eerste helft is de beste helft voetbal die ik dit weekend heb gezien. Hopelijk wordt ook dit niveua in de tweede helft gehaald, en wint River deze wedstrijd. De ploeg van Gallardo is wel duidelijk technisch beter, en is ook feller in de duels. Vooral Pity Martinez laat vandaag zijn klasse weer zien, en Mina speelt wederom fantastisch. Ik verwacht dat hij volgend jaar zomer een transfer maakt na een ploeg uit een grote Europese competitie.

River uiteindelijk 3-3 geworden, en in de slotfase kreeg ook Pity Martinez nog een rode kaart vanwege een elleboogstoot. Enerverende wedstrijd waarin River vooral na de 2-3 het overwicht uit handen gaf. Maidana speelde heel erg zwak, en ook Alario haalde niet zijn normale niveau. Het is goed voor het zelfvertrouwen van Driussi dat hij 2 doelpunten scoorde.

Boca won met 4-1 van Quilmes en Benedetto was de uitblinker.

Lanus speelde thuis mer 0-0 tegen Aladoviso, en ik vind het een onbegrijpelijke keuze van de trainer dat hij met Almirón, Sand en Gomez op de bank begonnen. Deze 3 spelers waren afgelopen seizoen bijna wekelijks de uitblinkers.

Meestal heb ik een van de combo fout. River had gisteren ook gewoon de kans om te winnen. 2. Keer op voorsprong gekomen, en vooral na de 2-3 zover inzakken dat je al ziet aankomen dat het fout gaat. Maidana speelde heel erg zwak, en bij Ponzio beginnen duidelijk de jaren te tellen. Het was wel een geweldige wedstrijd voor de neutrale toeschouwer. Ontzettend hoog tempo en aanvallend voetbal.

Arturo Mina is echt een geweldenaar centraal achterin. In de lucht bijna onklopbaar en ook fysiek sterk.

Alario viel helaas ook tegen terwijl hij in potentie een topspits kan worden. Bauza heeft ook aangegeven dat hij in hem de toekomstige vaste spits van de nationale ploeg ziet.

Pity Martinez is technisch een genot om na te kijken alleen zijn probleem blijft zijn fysiek, en hij is ook best een heethoofd indien het niet loopt bij de ploeg.

Supporters were questioning the role of Darío Benedetto as Boca’s number nine following last weekend’s draw with Godoy Cruz but the 26-year-old emphatically answered his critics with a stunning first half display to blitz Quilmes in La Bombonera. Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side had the match won within 25 minutes after Benedetto’s hat-trick and delightful assist for Ricardo Centuríon.

It took just six minutes for Boca to lead and it came courtesy of splendid backheel from Benedetto as he diverted Gino Peruzzi’s low cross into the net. However, Quilmes immediately responded through Hernán da Campo and it could have made things a little nervy given the pressure on Boca to perform but Benedetto had other ideas.

Brimming with confidence from his earlier goal the former Arsenal striker arrowed a shot straight into the top corner from 35 yards and in a crazy few minutes the home side simply ran away with the match.

Benedetto’s smart backheel released Ricardo Centurión to add a third and in the 25th minute he completed his hat-trick with a close range header. Understandably Boca took their foot off the gas in the second half but Barros Schelotto and the supporters went home satisfied.
