Messi domineert en speelt bij tijd en wijlen met die Chilenen. Toch zeker een stuk of zes keer een speler op z'n bips gekregen. Di Maria weer ouderwets dreigend, maar soms toch ook blind. Die kans die hij verneukte na die dribbel en pass van Messi is daar een typisch voorbeeld van. Maar alsnog wel veel beter dan de Di Maria van de Copa.
Kün is de slechtste tot dusver. Loopt er verloren bij. Het middenveld leek de eerste twintig minuten echt helemaal nergens op, maar ze hebben zich wel aardig herpakt. Verdediging blijft hilarisch. Chili is volgens mij de kleinste ploeg ter wereld, maar alsnog presteert Argentinië het om via een corner een tegendoelpunt van ze te incasseren. Otamendi is geen schim meer van de speler die hij vorig seizoen was en met Rojo ben ik langzamerhand klaar. Nog liever zonder LB dan. Mercado daarentegen doet het verrassend goed. Degelijk en scherp in de duels.

Toch is dit klusje nog niet geklaard. Chili blijft er steeds maar doorheen prikken en kijkend naar de verdediging van Argentinië gaan ze geheid nog een aantal 100% kansen creëren.

Rosario Central speelt momenteel het beste voetbal in Argentinië, en vooral Lo Celso is dit seizoen de grote uitblinker. Hij staat ook in de belangstelling van diverse clubs uit de Serie A, en ook PSG en Manchester City zitten regelmatig voor hem op de tribune. Hij zou een fantastische speler voor Palermo zijn het komende seizoen. Hij kan daar dan ook zoals Dybala en Pastores in het verleden meteen wennen aan de Serie A, maar ik denk dat hij gaat kiezen voor een grotere club qua naam.

Palermo heeft geen interesse zover ik heb vernomen in de media. De clubs die worden genoemd zijn Manchester City, Liverpool, Juventus, AS Roma en PSG. Volgens de geruchten heeft PSG ook een bod uitgebracht van 15 miljoen euro. Momenteel een van de smaakmakers in de Argentijnse competitie, en hij is klaar voor een stap hogerop. Al lijkt het mij beter dat hij eerst gaat kiezen voor een subtopper in een grote competitie, want het zou slecht voor zijn ontwikkeling zijn als hij bij een topclub op de bank terecht gaat komen.

Ik heb hem nu een aantal wedstrijden zien spelen, en ben onder de indruk van zijn talent. Mooi ook GBS het aandurft om hem vandaag zijn debuut te laten maken in de competitie. Tijdens de voorbereiding van dit seizoen viel Messidoro mij ook positief op. Het zou mooi zijn als hij uiteindelijk een topspeler wordt.

He has a name evocative of the Barcelona phenomenon, but around the Bombonera they say he plays more like a young Tevez. Just who is teenage Xeneize star Alexis Messidoro?

Who could possibly be better than Lionel Messi? A golden version of the Barcelona and Argentina superstar, perhaps? Boca Juniors may have just unearthed a new gem who invites instant comparisons.

Alexis Messidoro may be only 18, but he is already being talked about as one of the most promising young forwards in Argentine football. On Saturday the Bombonera will be able to glimpse his talent for the first time, as he gears up for his first-team debut against Aldosivi.

The star of the reserves, however, is not just turning heads for his ability. He has a name worthy of a stellar career in the game. If Diego Maradona was the Pibe de Oro (Golden Boy), Messidoro has logically been dubbed the Golden Messi thanks to a wordplay in his surname which is every newspaper sub-editor's dream.

"Who wouldn't dream of making their debut and scoring? And even more in the Boca first-team. I am delighted," the teenager said after netting for Boca in a pre-season win over Emelec, his first taste of playing alongside the seniors. Not only was he on target, but Cristian Pavon also received a perfect assist from the youngster to add another against the Ecuadorians.


Right-footed, unlike his almost-namesake Leo, Messidoro joined Boca at 13 and is equally comfortable playing up front or just behind the forward line. He netted eight times for the reserves in the second half of 2015 and this season has already scored five, making him the top scorer in the side coached by former Boca favourite Rolando Schiavi.

Within the club he is singled out as "Talented, a dribbler, completely fearless," and perhaps more than Messi has been compared with Bombonera idol Carlos Tevez. The former Juventus star, moreover, has already left his mark on the young pretender.

"He gave us a talk about his life, and how he managed to break into the first team, it was an unforgettable, unique chat," Messidoro gushed as he recalled the time Carlitos spoke to the youth divisions at Boca.

With Messi's name and Tevez's attributes, the kid certainly has a lot to live up to. Now he has the first chance to show that he can fulfil those heady comparisons and deliver the goods against Aldosivi in a highly anticipated debut.

Lo Celso

BEGINNINGS
There’s something in the waters of the Paraná River, as one of Argentina’s oldest and most storied clubs looks to be producing yet another talented attacker. Rosario Central have spent the past year in the ascendancy and that surge to the top of Argentine football has been powered in part to an attacking trident made up by the goals of Marco Ruben, the directness of Franco Cervi and the playmaking of Giovani Lo Celso. It would do the rest of the team a discredit to suggest that this trio alone is responsible for Central’s success to be sure, Eduardo Coudet has his team well-drilled in their defensive duties, but there’s no doubting the role Lo Celso has played in their upturn in form.

After showing glimpses of his attacking talent last season Lo Celso has come to the fore this season; his desire and willingness to take on more of the creative burden when Central go forward has been a key factor in their upturn in form. Oddly enough, Lo Celso has yet to be capped by Argentina, even at youth level. If his form carries on as it’s been going though, that’s unlikely to remain the case for long.

STYLE OF PLAY
It doesn’t take long while watching Lo Celso play before one takes note of his impressive technique, often standing out in midfields composed of far more experienced players. Fielded in central midfield with the licence to get into advanced positions and support the attack, Lo Celso is regularly able to display his fine ball control and excellent eye for a pass to unlock opposition defences. The young midfielder has shown a willingness to drift around the pitch and drop deep when the game requires, with an impressive range of passing which means he can pose a creative threat even from deep.

Lo Celso has shown an impressive maturity when on the ball, willing to work for his moments and exert more control by slowing down play. He does this either by recycling possession high up the pitch or by using his close control to take multiple touches even in advanced positions where players could be easily crowded out. When the opportunity to make an incisive pass does come about, Lo Celso is always quick to recognise the possibility. The frequency with which he executes through balls is impressive on its own, but coupling this with his range of passing means he’s just as likely to drift in from a wide position and play a slide-rule pass behind the defence as he is to chip a lofted through ball from deep into a teammate’s stride or to try a deft flick through the defence in an advanced position.

As is often the case with players who look so talented at such a young age, the intelligence and decision-making of Lo Celso is what really makes him stand out from his peers. Capable of also posing a threat with his shooting as he finds himself in good positions, Lo Celso has the full spectrum of attacking attributes at his disposal and given his intelligence and understanding of the game there’s a reason he’s so highly valued. His understanding of space means he’s almost always available as a passing outlet for teammates and is able to control link-up play in the final third. His ability from dead ball situations is another one of the many assets of his game which make him so dangerous.

However, perhaps the most unexpected part of Lo Celso’s game is his defensive work-rate. His pressing often forces turnovers in great positions for quick ripostes and it’s not unusual to see him sprinting forwards or across the pitch to intercept a pass or capitalise on an errant touch. Lo Celso sounds like the complete package and for one still so young his game is very impressive, but it’s not without weaknesses. His slight size means he’s quick enough across the ground and his low centre of gravity helps him retain the ball in tight spaces, but that slightness also means he can struggle on the occasions when physical defenders get tight enough to apply pressure. Furthermore, although his left foot is so magical that it can seem wand-like at times, if he were to improve the threat he poses with his right foot he’d undoubtedly multiply the threat he carries going forward.

FORECAST FOR THE FUTURE
These are small complaints in a well-rounded game, especially given Lo Celso’s young age. With fellow Central hotshot Franco Cervi set to move to Benfica in the summer there’s been no end in the transfer speculation regarding the young midfielder, and recently it seems to be ramping up by the day. Atletico Madrid have been linked with Lo Celso after recently taking Kranevitter from Argentina. Truth be told the majority of top European clubs have been linked; most big Italian clubs have been linked with him for a while, Napoli, Roma and Juventus repeatedly. Chelsea too, with both Manchester clubs mentioned recently and recent speculation suggests PSG may well be favourites. Since the time of writing there’s no doubt the speculation has grown even more, just Google “Lo Celso transfer” to see how many more clubs have been linked with the young midfielder. Anyway, the point is made. Lo Celso is a man in demand.

However, Rosario Central have tried to play hardball. In January they said they’d yet to have any contact over a possible transfer, although admitted that some figures can’t be turned down. With Cervi leaving in the summer the club would no doubt like to keep hold of Lo Celso at least. It’s pretty clear though that if a club at the level of PSG or Juventus decided to stretch their financial muscles and make a move for Lo Celso, Central would find it very hard to hold onto him. With the player getting regular football in the Primera and Copa Libertadores at such a young age, it would probably be in his best interests to hold off on a move for now and focus on refining his game with the guarantee of regular football that a stay in Rosario would bring. Further impressive performances, coupled with the inclusion in the Argentine Olympic team that looks more and more likely as time passes will no doubt see interest continue to grow. While Lo Celso may be staying in Argentina for now, there’s no doubting that the young midfielder’s name is one to remember.

Ik vind Rodrigo de Paul wat overschat door de media. Zijn fysiek ben ik niet van onder de indruk, en hij is ook totaal niet constant. Racing Club heeft hem nu ook op huurbasis weer terug, maar hij kan duidelijk het verschil niet maken. Centurion vind ik qua talent beter, maar die gaat het ook nooit redden in de top, en dat ligt grotendeels aan zijn karakter.

De 3 dispensatiespeles die waarschijnlijk meegaan na de Olympische spelen zullen zeer waarschijnlijk Ramiro Funes Mori, Musacchio en Maidana zijn.

Boca Juniors were forced to play with 10 men for almost the entirety of Sunday's Superclasico, but held on to draw 0-0 against River Plate.

Last month's meeting at Estadio Monumental had also been a tense and edgy affair, but the home side may be happier with the point on this occasion after playing short-handed for almost 80 minutes.

Midfielder Pablo Perez was the man to depart the action early - his 12th-minute red card the fastest of the league season so far.

His dismissal came following a late challenge from River's Eder Balanta, who clattered into Boca goalkeeper Agustin Orion.

Perez reacted angrily and aimed a violent kick into the stomach of Balanta, leaving referee Dario Herrera little option but to brandish the red card, while Balanta picked up a caution for his troubles.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Boca continued to pose an attacking threat although neither side was able to carve out any clear-cut goalscoring opportunities.

River went closest in the first half as Orion flew to his left to keep out Andres D'Alessandro's curling free-kick five minutes prior to the interval.

In the second period, Carlos Tevez brought a near-post save out of Marcelo Barovero with seven minutes remaining, but there was to be no derby hero as both sides were left to settle for a point that does little to aid their respective mid-table positions.

FERNANDO GAGO SUFFERS FRESH ACHILLES INJURY AND FACES MONTHS OUT

Last September, minutes into the superclásico in the Monumental, Fernando Gago fell crumpled to the floor under no challenge but obviously in considerable pain. The Argentina international had ruptured his achilles tendon and faced months on the sidelines, missing Boca’s league and cup triumph at the end of 2015.

On Sunday afternoon in La Bombonera, Boca Juniors once more hosted fierce rivals River Plate and with Boca already down to ten men, Gago appeared to take an outrageous dive in an effort to earn Lucas Alario a second yellow and even things up. Replays showed a slight slip before Gago threw himself ahead of Alario without even the vaguest of touches but there appeared nothing untoward.

However, Gago stayed down and received treatment before being helped off the field and substituted. Even at that point, it didn’t appear too serious as Gago was still remonstrating with either the officials or River players and pointing to his foot.

Unfortunately for the 30-year-old, Boca have no confirmed that he has ruptured the same achilles tendon and will require surgery this week. Gago missed more than four months football when he suffered the same injury last season and Boca’s medical team are now estimating that the midfielder will be out 6-7 months.

Sickening news for Gago but a bitter blow for Boca ahead of crucial Copa Libertadores matches.

Ik verwacht ook niet dat zijn contract nog wordt verlengd bij Boca, en indien dat wel gebeurt Boca hem een prestatiecontract laat ondertekenen. Al zullen er waarschijnlijk wel wat clubs uit China of de MLS zijn die hem een contract willen aanbeden.

Giovani Lo Celso's father believes that Paris Saint-Germain would be a good next destination for the Rosario Central-attacking midfielder.

Lo Celso, 20, is thought to have caught the eye of several European clubs as a result of his performances in the Argentine Primera Division and the Copa Libertadores.

His father Juan, who also manages his son's interests, made a trip to Europe recently to meet with directors of clubs who are tracking the player's progress.

Lo Celso has an Italian passport and, according to Le Parisien, his father first spent time with Roma.

But having then visited Paris this month, he believes that PSG could be a better fit.

"PSG's sporting project appealed to me more," Juan Lo Celso told Le Parisien.

There's a smaller squad. In the short term, for Giovani, the chances of playing and proving himself are better at PSG.

AGÜERO’S BROTHER MAKES INDEPENDIENTE DEBUT BUT EL ROJO SLUMP TO DEFEAT TO TITLE CHASING SAN LORENZO


San Lorenzo tightened their grip on a 2017 Copa Libertadores spot with a hard fought 1-0 win over Independiente in Avellaneda. Pablo Guede’s side defended well to keep out the home side and snatched victory with a superbly worked goal two minutes after half time, expertly finished by Nicolás Blandi. El Rojo threw all they had at the visitors including handing a debut to Sergio Agüero’s younger brother, Gastón del Castillo but were unable to muster an equaliser and so ended any hopes of bringing a long awaited title to the Estadio Libertadores de América.

Despite exiting this year’s Copa Libertadores in the group stage, San Lorenzo’s season has gathered momentum at just the right time and after showing real defensive weakness in the opening weeks, Los Cuervos are now grinding out wins. A fifth consecutive victory now perhaps has San Lorenzo as title favourites just a matter of weeks after Pablo Guede’s days as coach looked numbered.

While Guede may have eased the pressure on himself, Independiente manager Mauricio Pellegrino must now face the questions of supporters after another occasion where El Rojo needed a result but came up short. An improved performance from the clásico draw last weekend should have seen the home side lead at half time but after wasting so many decent chances there was always the suspicion that Independiente would pay for their profligacy.

And so it proved when just two minutes into the second half, San Lorenzo opened up the Independiente defence with a flowing passing move from their own half. Sebastián Blanco provided the impetus and when Martín Cauteruccio eased the ball into the path of Nicolás Blandi, El Ciclón’s leading scorer was emphatic in slotting the ball past Martín Campaña.

Mauricio Pellegrino knew that defeat would end his side’s outside chance of a league title and equally importantly see a good chance of Copa Libertadores qualification escape resulting in Independiente throwing caution to the wind. Martín Benítez and Germán Denis were brought on to try and add some firepower but San Lorenzo’s new found defensive solidity was able to stifle any chances.

With a little over 15 minutes remaining, El Rojo introduced Gastón del Castillo for his debut but the younger brother of club icon, Sergio Agüero was unable to make an impact. Sergio made his debut against San Lorenzo in 2003 aged 15, and supporters of El Rojo will be hoping that 18-year-old Gastón turns out half as good as big brother.

An equaliser never appeared and with the victory San Lorenzo took a six point lead over third place in Zone One, meaning Guede’s side are one win away from a return to the Copa Liberatores with three matches remaining. The title race with Godoy Cruz looks set to go to the wire but San Lorenzo should not be counted out in spite of their earlier struggles.

River heeft met 1-0 thuis gewonnen van independiente delle Valle. Doelpunt werd in de 80e minuut gescoord door Alario. Omdat er uit met 2-0 werd verloren is River uitgeschakeld in de Copa Libertadores. Zeer teleurstellend seizoen tot dusver voor River, want ook in de competitie loopt het totaal niet. Het is duidelijk dat er defensief versterking moet komen, en ook is Sánchez niet goed vervangen. De flanken op het middenveld missen duidelijk diepgang, en helaas lijkt ook Driussi stil te staan in zijn ontwikkeling.

Atletico Nacional won met 4-2 van Huracan, en ook Racing Club verloor hun wedstrijd uit met 2-1 van Atletico MG. 3 Argentijnse clubs dus uitgeschakeld in de Copa Libertadores.

Bij Lucho is ook duidelijk zichtbaar dat hij het niet meer kan belopen, en het is beter als hij aan het einde van dit seizoen ermee stopt. Ook Pisculichi vind ik steeds minder presteren.

Er dient dus een grote schoonmaak te worden gehouden bij River.

Indien River de Copa Argentina niet wint zal de ploeg niet actief zijn in de Copa Libertadores in 2017.

More details of the Argentine Superliga have come out after a lunch shared by 24 Argentine club presidents today in Ezeiza.
The move would cut the Primera down to 20 or 22 teams, and could be voted on in Assembly as early as next months before president elections.

Report: Boca release Osvaldo?

Former Italy international Dani Osvaldo will reportedly be released by Boca Juniors after smoking in the locker room and taking nude selfies.

The troubled 30-year-old striker, who played his international football for Italy but was born and raised in Argentina, has had a troubled career littered with bad behaviour.

He famously punched Roma teammate Erik Lamela, headbutted Southampton teammate Jose Fonte and moved rapidly from club to club.

According to the latest reports in Argentina, Boca have decided to release him from his contract, which doesn’t expire until June 2017.

He left Porto for a return to Boca in February, but made only a handful of appearances.

Osvaldo left the pitch after a 1-1 Copa Libertadores draw with Nacional and went straight to the locker room, where he was reportedly caught smoking.

This comes just days after nude selfies of the player were leaked online.

Boca Juniors heeft zich geplaatst voor de halve finale van de Copa Libertadores. Thuis werd het 1-1 tegen Nacional. Uit was het ook
1-1, en uiteindelijk werd Orion de held van de strafschoppenreeks.

Ik heb vannacht Atletico Nacional - Rosario Central gekeken, en het was zoals ik vooraf had verwacht een spektakelstuk. De Colombianen wonnen uiteindeljk met 3-1 door in de blesurretijd de 3-1 te scoren. Bij Atletico Nacional was Marlos Moreno wederom de uitblinker.

In de 9e minuut kwam Rosario Central dankzij een penalty die benut werd door Ruben op 0-1, en leek het een hele zware opgave te worden Voor de Colombianen omdat er in Argentinië met 1-0 verloren werd. Vlak voor rust maakte Macnelly Torres de 1-1. In de 50e minuut maakte Alejandro Guerra ( assist Marlos Moreno) de 2-1, en was Rosario op basis van uitdoelpunten nog steeds door. In de 90e minuut zorgde Marlos Moreno er met zijn actie voor dat Esteban Burgos zijn tweede gele kaart kreeg. Daarna maakte Berrio Melendez de 3-1 op aangeven van de ingevallen Castaneda.

Na dit doelpunt kreeg Rosario Central nog een kans, maar die werd niet benut, en werd Ruben nog teruggevlagd vanwege buitenspel.

De maker van de 3-1 Berrio Melendez ( vanwege zijn gedrag na zijn goal) en Damian Musto kregen rood, en uiteindelijke werd ook Lo Celso nog van het veld gestuurd, en eindigde wedstrijd met 10-8. Onbegrijpelijke keuze van Coudet om in deze wedstrijd Lo Celso niet in de basis te zetten. Het grootste talent op de Argentijnse velden werd pas in de 72e minuut in de ploeg gebracht. Ook Gli Romero moest op de bank beginnen.

De Colombianen zijn thuis bijna onverslaanbaar, en iedereen zegt dat Atletico Madrid een vechtmachine is, maar deze ploeg is vele maar erger.
